1. How does the Google Analytics (GA4) integration work with Google Tag Manager?

We support GA4 tracking through Google Tag Manager (GTM). You’ll set up a Google tag (for overall data flow) and GA4 Event tags (for actions you want to track). Once configured, your site will send event data to your GA4 property automatically.

2. What do I need before setting up GA4 tracking?

Before starting, make sure you have:

  • A GA4 property and web data stream

  • Google Tag Manager installed on your website

  • Access to your GTM container

  • Editor (or higher) permissions in GA4

3. What is the Google tag and why do I need it?

The Google tag establishes the data connection between your site and GA4. You only need one Google tag per domain, and it should fire on all pages in your GTM container.

4. How do I set up the Google tag in Google Tag Manager?

  1. Open GTM and select your container

  2. Create a new tag → choose Google tag

  3. Enter your Google tag ID (found in GA4)

  4. Set the trigger to All Pages

  5. Save and publish
Finally, copy your GTM container ID into your Momence settings so we can load your GTM setup.

5. How do I track purchase events in GA4?

To track purchases and see monetization data, you’ll create:

  • Three Data Layer Variables:

    • ecommerce.value

    • ecommerce.items

    • ecommerce.currency

  • A GA4 Event tag named “purchase”

  • A Custom Event Trigger also named “purchase”
Enable Send Ecommerce data → Data Layer to ensure GA4 receives structured ecommerce details.

6. What Data Layer variables do I need for purchase tracking?

Create these as user-defined variables in GTM:

  • Data Layer – GA4 Ecommerce value: ecommerce.value

  • Data Layer – GA4 Ecommerce items: ecommerce.items

  • Data Layer – GA4 Ecommerce currency: ecommerce.currency

7. Why isn’t purchase tracking showing up in GA4?

Purchase tracking requires cross-domain tracking so user sessions stay intact when customers move between your site and Momence. If cross-domain settings are missing, GA4 will treat the checkout as a new session and purchases may not appear.

8. How do I set up cross-domain tracking for GA4?

In GA4:

  • Go to Admin → Data Streams → Web

  • Click Configure tag settings

  • Select Configure your domains

  • Add a condition with:

    • Match type: Contains

    • Domain: momence.com

  • Save your updates

9. Can I create additional GA4 events in Google Tag Manager?

Yes. You can create as many custom GA4 Event tags as you need. Each event can include parameters from the Data Layer and can be tied to custom triggers.

10. How do I confirm that my events are firing correctly?

Use DebugView or the real-time reports in GA4. When you preview your GTM workspace, events should appear live under your GA4 property.
