On Demand Library / Subscriptions Overview

You can sell access to your on demand videos in a few ways:

  • Collections show your customers a list of videos to rent (purchased individually and can be watched in any order)

  • Courses show your customers a list of videos that must be purchased all at once and can only be consumed in one order.

  • On-demand subscriptions allow you to include access to both collections and courses, allowing for one purchase to be made and access to be granted instantly (instead of a la carte).

Collections are ideal if you'd like you're customers to be able to pick and choose from all videos within a collection, in any order they choose. Collections also have a 'scheduled go live' or 'drop' date feature, where you can schedule video debuts.

Courses allow you extra control over the order in which the videos are watched, require a little extra setup to make this possible.

In summary, creating an on-demand subscription isn't required but allows your customers to have an easy one time purchase that continues to give them access to the things they want to view.

Upload On-demand Content via Collections or Courses

On demand content allows your customers to watch videos, listen to audio files, view pdfs, or take a quiz (a questionnaire). Its most commonly used with videos and allows you to monetize work you've already done (ie. if you've already taught a class and recorded it, why not let that class continue to bring you new revenue).

Video Format and Quality to use

Save your videos in an MP4 format before uploading them. 1080p is an ideal quality. It's the highest we support when optimizing videos, and the highest quality while being the most compatible in terms of devices and internet speed connections.

To get started with uploading videos enable On Demand Content in the Apps Store by clicking Apps and Integrations.

Collections or Courses?

Which one is right for you?

The On-Demand menu contains two main options. 'Your Library' and 'Courses'.

Your Library refers to your On-Demand Video Library, which you'll find if you click your library. It's divided into what are called Collections---groups of videos or PDF's.

Courses allow you to organize the order of the content into chapters.

Below is a diagram of what Collections and Courses can each contain.

So, which one is right for you?

If you:

  • are looking to give access to just videos or PDFs; and

  • don't mind if customers watch them out of order

  • want to allow rentals or use an on-demand subscription

  • may want to schedule certain video releases for later dates

then Collections are for you.

Choose Courses if you:

  • would like to use chronological chapters to order your content

  • may want to use videos, quizzes or PDFs

  • release these items on a regular cadence (Drip Content)

Here's a more in-depth list of what Collections and Courses can do.

Collections allow you to:

  • organize your videos into groups

  • upload videos to be accessed as rentals or subscriptions

  • add PDFs next to videos (like a written recipe next to a cooking video)

  • schedule video releases (via a 'drop' date)

  • add 'tags' to help customers sort by subject (and reveal insights in reporting)

  • view/download reporting on video view counts & active/past renters

Courses allow you to:

  • organize videos, pdfs and quizzes into chronological chapters

  • sell rental access to an entire course

  • schedule 'reveal' schedules for a chapter of videos (ie. 1 new video each week). These timelines begin when a course is purchased.

  • view reporting on course rental sales

Video views report - see how your videos are performing

You can navigate to this report by clicking Analytics > Reports > scroll to On-demand > click Video Views

This report will start you off with a list of videos and high level numbers. Set the date parameters up top, then apply the filter.

To drill down on individual viewer numbers, click on the video.

How do I create a questionnaire or quiz?

Note: If you're looking for how to create Custom Fields that prompt users for information at checkouts, this article will show you how do this using a birthday field as an example. This one uses an injury field as an example.

For Intake Forms for Appointments use this article.

Creating a quiz in an On-Demand Course

In our On-Demand section, our Course feature allows you to add quizzes. Click On-Demand > Courses > Add Item (or Add Chapter, then Add Item).

Add the quiz's title, then add questions and answers. Note that you can choose to give multiple choice answers if preferable.

Make sure to publish the item. To preview what the customer will see, click the Title to the left.

Then click the direct quiz link.

Here's how the fields filled out above will display to the customer. Note this is using a custom added background color.

Customers are given feedback on right and wrong answers as they advance through the quiz.

How do tags for on-demand content work?

Tags allow your customers to filter the video's they see for just the content they want -- like yoga types or teacher names.

For instance, if you assigned a tag called Joanie, to each of Joanies on-demand videos, like this,

then this would allow your customers to filter your videos for just Joanie, like this.

To create tags and assign them to videos, click On demand > Video Library > choose a collection > locate a video to tag > click the drop down menu to the right > click Edit > Choose tags from the drop down menu. To create subtags, use the Manage Tags link.

To preview your changes > click Your Page.

Then click On-Demand Videos and Courses.

Choose the On-Demand option. As you make changes, save them at the bottom, then preview those changes using the 'Your page' option in the top left.

Once you land on 'Your page,' click On-Demand Videos and Courses.

You'll see all customizations here. Pro tip: leave this tab open and refresh it as you make changes in the customization page.

How do I create an On-demand Course?

From your dashboard, click On-Demand > Courses > New Course

Give it a title and description > If content will be released gradually (instead of all at once), enable 'content dripping'

Then set how frequently a new item will be revealed.

Add a course thumbnail, and an optional course intro video. This video gives the customer a free preview of what they'll get with purchase of the course. It can drive conversions.

Add a new course item.

Choose your item type. In this case we'll add a video.

You'll notice content dripping is already enabled from our decision to turn it on earlier. You can override this if you like. If you have more than one video to upload, select Multiple up top.

Click Upload video, then drag and drop your video from your computer into the pop up.

Upload a thumbnail and click Create.

To make it available, toggle the 'published' button on.

You'll be able to preview how soon they'll become available to a customer that's paid for the course.

To make the course public, in the left hand nav, click Courses, then flip on the 'published' toggle next to the course.

Then preview it using the link above. Put this link on your site or share it with your customers. Here's what they'll see when they click on it.

Customers will also be able to find your courses on their mobile app by clicking On Demand > Courses.

Overview of Video Courses

On-demand videos can be presented to customers in two styles: collections and courses. Courses add a little more structure.

Courses allow you to add quizzes, PDFs or videos. You can then organize these items into chapters.

Below is a customer facing page where a course on cooking can be purchased. See the lock symbols?

These locks indicate if a video is available. This is one way you can structure courses. You can choose the order that your videos will be watched.

The host of this cooking course has chosen to make the 'Soup' video available first. She'd like each student to watch it before the next video on Pasta becomes available.

She can also choose a steady stream of videos based on time intervals, like releasing one new video every week from a list that she has uploaded to Momence.

As a host, you can even choose to hide or 'unpublish' videos from public view. Just use the 'Published' toggles on the Course details page.

If you'd like to quickly share a link with your customers to purchase your course, from your dashboard click 'Your page'.

They'll be able to find it under 'On-Demand Videos and Courses'.

After clicking Courses, they'll see this option to purchase.

Create an on demand subscription

On-demand subscriptions give customers paid access to on demand content (usually videos). The videos can be organized into two formats: collections or courses.

Whats the difference?

  • A collection of videos can be watched in any order

  • A course of videos requires that videos are watched in a specific order

On-demand subscriptions can include both collections and courses. The example below is an on demand subscription that includes two collections.

To set this up, first, create your collections (or courses). Note that collections require less setup and are a faster way to get your content uploaded.

  • To create a collection click On-demand > Video Library > New Collection

  • Name it > then set a default rental price and duration for the videos it will contain

  • Upload videos to the collection in mp4 format

  • To add thumbnails to a video, click on it, edit it and scroll to the thumbnail section

Next, create your On-Demand Subscription.

  • click Memberships > Subscriptions & Packs > On-Demand Subscriptions > Add New > set a price > choose your duration settings (ex. a 1 month auto renewing subscription bills every month on the same day).

  • choose whats included (ie. which video collections or courses the subscription can be used on)
