What's the difference?

Real Money Credits are like cash in a customer's bank account.

Promotional Money Credits are Real Money Credits that customers receive from referrals or other promotional activities, like Sequences. You can also refund customers in Promotional credits.

By default, Promotional Money Credits are not taxed in checkouts.

If you prefer that Promotional Money Credits are taxed, this can be controlled from Settings > under Studio, click Locations Rooms & Tax Settings > create or edit a tax setting > toggle on 'Apply tax to promotional money credits.'

How can promotional credits be given?

In POS

When selling credits in POS, under Cart, after clicking Money Credits, your staff will see options to distinguish which type.

When refunding customers

When refunding, you'll also see options to distinguish which type.

In Sequences

After creating a new sequence, and choosing a Trigger, then an Action, under Action Types > Money Credits, you'll now see the option to distinguish which type.

How can promotional credits be used?

In POS

When staff are using credits as a payment method, under Memberships they'll see labels indicating which type of credits are available.

In customer checkouts

Customers will see options to choose which credits but its worth noting that different credit types cannot be combined.

In the staff facing POS, its worth noting that promotional and real money credits can be combined using the split payment toggle that lives just off to the right.

A non-taxed promotional credit will result in the following warning to help set the staff member's expectations.

How to view details of credit types used in previous transactions

In payment details

Payment details will list any taxes applied based on money credit / promotional credit tax settings.

This can be accessed from a customer's profile via Activity > Payments > click the dropdown menu to the right of the payment > click details.
