Payment plans give customers an option at checkout to break up their payments into smaller chunks over time.
You can now customize an individual customer's payment plan in ways that speed up the process -- simply enter the total amount due, the number of installments, the first payment date, and the interval between installments (how frequently the customer will be charged).
Note: each payment plan must be associated with an existing sale. For example, in POS you could sell an expensive membership or class for 'free', or, by using 'Other'. Then head to Customers > Payment Plans > and create a payment plan for that item.
Enabling a Delayed Custom Payment Method
You can also elect to use a delayed custom payment method if, for example, you prefer to send an invoice, or have some alternate billing system worked out. With an invoice, once payment is received, you can mark the plan as paid from Customers > Payment Plans, using the dropdown menu to the right.
To enable delayed custom payment method, click Settings > scroll to the bottom of Misc. Account Settings > enable this.
Then choose one of your delayed custom payment methods. You will only see delayed options listed here.
If you don't see any options available, head to Settings > Custom Payment Methods > Actions > Create new custom payment method or edit and mark an existing one as delayed.
Pro tip: Add a custom payment method titled 'To be paid using a payment method' or something akin.
Does a membership or class need to be sold first?
Yes, it must be sold first before a payment plan can be created & associated with it.
How do I create a payment plan?
Click Customers > Payment Plans > and create a payment plan > select the customer > choose the item you'll set a payment plan up for.
For less setup work, use 'Pre-populate installments'.
Add the total price of the item (note here its pre-populating with $100 but this is not the actual price). This should be edited.
Then set the number of installments and the math will be done automatically based on the total cost.
Where can I access existing payment plans to make changes?
To access a customers payment plan (whether to edit it or take a payment early), click Customers > Payment Plans.
