Stripe is the payment processor Momence uses to handle card payments. Use this article to learn why a payment failed and how to resolve a rejected or blocked Stripe account.
Why Payments Fail
A payment can fail for simple reasons, such as an incorrect card number or insufficient funds. A payment can also be flagged for fraud. Stripe handles failures in two ways.
Payments Declined by Card Issuers
The card issuer is the bank or company that issued the customer’s card. When Momence submits a charge, the issuer’s automated systems decide whether to authorize it. These systems analyze signals such as:
The customer’s spending habits.
The account balance.
Card details, including the expiration date, billing address, and CVC (card verification code).
If the issuer declines a payment, check the reason in your Stripe Dashboard. For more detail, read Stripe’s article, Declines.
Blocked Payments
Radar is Stripe’s automated fraud prevention toolset. Radar blocks high-risk payments, such as those with a mismatched CVC or postal code, to protect your business from fraud. For more detail, read Stripe’s documentation, Blocked Payments.
What to Do When a Payment Fails
Log in to your Stripe Dashboard.
Open the failed transaction in the payments section.
Review any error messages or notifications that explain the failure.
Contact the customer to explain the failure and ask them to fix the cause. For example, ask them to update their payment information or use a different card.
Contact Stripe Support if you need more detail on the failure.
Have the customer retry the purchase, or rerun the payment manually from your dashboard.
What to Do When Stripe Rejects or Blocks Your Account
Stripe sometimes pauses your ability to receive funds in your bank account when your business information is missing. Stripe alone decides whether to approve, reject, or block an account. Momence cannot override these decisions.
Log in to your Stripe Dashboard.
Review the reason Stripe gives for the rejection or block. Stripe typically lists the actions or documents you need to provide.
Complete each required item. Stripe may ask you to provide additional information, verify your identity, or meet compliance requirements.
Contact Stripe Support if the reason or next step is unclear.
Watch your email for updates from Stripe about your account status.
